Temporary Resident Visa

You can apply for a Temporary Resident Visa (or TRV) if your reason for travelling to Canada is to visit on a temporary basis as a tourist, or to visit friends and/or relatives or for business purposes. Your planned trip to Canada can only be for a maximum of 6 months, with extensions allowed in some exceptions.

To be successful in your application process you must produce credentials, statements, diplomas, references, etc. to be reproduced and included with your application. We produce an Explanation Letter that focuses on the pertinent points the IRCC officers are looking for.

You must demonstrate that you qualify for Temporary Resident Visa by proving the relevant points below:
  • Ties to Country of Resident – You must list strong socio-economic ties to your home country, such as business license/ownership, work details, title deeds, leases, contracts, school enrolment, family ties, letters from employers confirming position and leave of absence, etc.
  • Financial Resources – Provide bank statements and proof of assets and sufficient funds to pay for your travel and living expenses.
  • Travel History – To qualify for a Visitor Visa you must not have abused the terms of your visa within ten years
  • No Criminal Record or Security Risk – You should have never been denied entry into due to a criminal record, history of controversy or lying on applications.
  • Provide Proper Documentation – Have a valid passport and written permissions to travel with minors if required.
  • Hotel reservations/Tickets – IRCC officers may want proof that you have an address to go to in Canada, requiring the listing of hotels, details of hosts, etc. A return flight ticket to your home country should be purchased before applying.
  • Good Health – You may be required to Undergo a medical exam in advance or at the port of entry, and provide biometric information in the form of fingerprints to immigration officials.
  • A Letter of Invitation – This may be required and is highly recommended.

Temporary Resident Visa

You may apply for a Single or Multiple Visit Temporary Resident Visa:
  • Single-Entry – allows you to enter Canada only once and stay up to 6 months.
  • Multiple-Entry – allows you to enter Canada several times while your Visa is valid, up to 10 years or one month before your passport/re-entry Visa expires, whichever comes first. as is the case with the Super Visa for grandparents and spouses.

Even after receiving a Temporary Resident Visa, you must demonstrate at the Port of Entry to Canada that the purpose of your trip is to visit Canada for a temporary period of time, however, you may apply for an extension to your Visitor Visa while in Canada.

Read our latest blog on Temporary Resident Visas in Canada for a more in-depth look. Also, read up on Study Permits and Work Permits as well as Temporary Resident Permits, which last from one day to up to three years. This may be a route for those who are considered inadmissible to Canada due to a criminal background, misrepresenting themselves, security or medical issues and thus unable to obtain a Temporary Resident Visa.
